The FRITZ! journey as told by Stephanie, Hardware Development Working Student

Designing, not just aligning

I’m doing an online bachelor’s in media informatics – digital media and computer science. That’s why I was looking for a good place to do my work placement. FRITZ! turned out to be a perfect match for my project. I jumped straight into the hardware layout team and am working on a complete redesign of a key internal tool. It’s incredibly motivating: My ideas don’t just get heard, they get put into action.

My design is live

My job is to make the hardware portal our developers use every day more user-friendly. I had the chance to completely redesign the layout, and then implement it. The portal is now using my design. I’m currently working on making the content even more dynamic. A colleague from the team provides me with technical support – he’s my first point of contact if I have any questions. But if I get stuck on anything, others in the team will also help me out.

Working at my own pace

I have two small children and am studying at the same time, so it’s extremely important to have some flexibility. If it takes a bit longer at the nursery in the morning, or if I need to get some university work done, I’m able to spontaneously switch to working from home at short notice. I work 20 hours a week, but don’t have fixed hours. Sometimes I don’t work in the mornings at all, and don’t get to my computer before midday. Other days, it’s the other way around. We just coordinate it as a team. Many of my colleagues at FRITZ! are parents themselves. That means there’s a lot of understanding, and I don’t need to feel bad about it.
